We all know Nike. They are one of the pioneers of performance sneakers. I have been a loyal Nike customer for close to forty years and prefer them over the competition. Their success in the shoe industry is unapparelled. Their product lines cover everything from performance / activewear to crocs (ugh). Their global presence in footwear is gargantuan. So what else can they accomplish? “What’s the next big thing that they can offer me?” one might ask.

Introducing the New Nike “Smart Kicks” (working name). This sneaker, made for men and women of all ages, combines all of the features one would have from a smart watch – it will track your steps, your pulse, sleep patterns, distance traveled. Smart Kicks can tell each user, through Bluetooth connection on one’s phone and through the Nike app, your activity levels that day. Also, through the app, a user can share their progress with friends in a virtual smart kicks community. For safe – activity at night, the souls of each sneaker will illuminate if the user so desires (they can select a schedule for the souls to illuminate and the colors through the Nike App). All of these features plus “share my shoe spot” that allows users to share their location if wearing their sneakers. Users can share virtually via the app or, as cool as this sounds, users can “click kicks”. This is when one shoe wearer literally clicks the shoe of another user. Once clicked, user must permit the other user to access their location via the Nike app. All this plus much more! How exciting is that???

My research for this project would begin by garnering the interest of a shoe with this potential. I can start my collection of data first by email marketing. My first group of interest to gauge would existing be Nike app users and / or collecting customer info from Nike purchases over the past 12 months. Here, my research design would center around surveying these existing, loyal customers. By sampling them I would collect the data to represent a decent sample size of the total, global Nike community in order to view potential interest in my product. My conclusions and reporting (as to whether the smart kicks would be a hit or not) would be based on these results.
With that said, I’m excited to get started. So… let’s JUST DO IT!
